The Watershed Kilkenny played host to 150 swimmers from Kilkenny Swimming Club and another 110 from 8 different visiting clubs for their swimming competition on Saturday 26th November. The gala proved to be their busiest competition to date with over 900 individual races featured.
Club volunteers and Watershed staff managed by David Tiernan, worked tirelessly on the evening to ensure the meet was held to the highest standards under the watchful eye of official Leinster Region Referee, Mr. Pat Daly.
The 5-hour competition began at 5pm opening with novice swimmers in a 25-metre freestyle race and closing with the exciting 4 by 50 metre mixed relay event. Full results can be found here (please scroll down)
Kilkenny swimmers were pushed to their best by some impressive racing from visitors from St. Fiacc’s Carlow and Kingfisher swimmers from Thurles amongst other highly competitive visitors from Clonmel, Laois Marlins, Enniscorthy, Wexford and Piranhas swim teams.
The boost to club funds for their important biannual fundraiser was aided by the raffle of a personalised racing swimsuit worth over 250 euro, kindly donated by proprietor Nickey Burke at swimkit.ie from his shop at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin and a Christmas Hamper from local business man and swimmer parent, Ian Bolger.
A big team of ten Kilkenny swimmers now head to the Irish National Short Course Competition at Lisburn on Friday, directed by Head Coach, John Duffy, to compete against the top Irish swimmers over a three-day competition. Live results are published on the Swim Ireland website throughout.
